Important Regulatory Updates for the State of New York
The regulation was initially expected to take effect in 2020, but due to the logistical challenges of converting users to low-VOC solvent during the COVID-19 emergency, the State of New York extended the deadline to December 1, 2021. However, due to continued industry wide supply-chain sourcing challenges impacting the availability of VOC compliant solutions, the state of NY has issued a continuation of enforcement discretion for this regulation and has extended the deadline to convert to Dec 1, 2022. A link to the Enforcement Discretion letter issued by NYSDEC can be found below.
What Does This Mean?
Ultimately, in order for high VOC parts washing solvent users to be in compliance with this regulatory change, you will need to be switched from the cleaning solution you are currently using with your solvent parts cleaning equipment to an alternative compliant cleaning solution by the Dec 1, 2022 deadline.
